2015 Hotel Critiques

December 1 - 8, 2015
New Orleans House @ 724 Duval St, Key West, FL

If your looking for your True Gay Experience in Key West, this is the place, right in the midst of the Gay District, the Back Bar with Pool and Hot Tub are Clothing Optional, with Sun Decks, front Balcony over looking Duval St where you can people watch if you so desire.  Good breakfast in the morning.  The entire staff from the Front Desk to the Cleaning Staff and Bar Staff are awesome and always there to help with information about the area.  The rooms are on the older side, but it gives the feel for authentic Key West the way it would have been back in the 80's when it was the place to be.  If you do hang out a the Bar, you will run into lots of locals that are loads of fun to hang out with and chat with.  If I make it back to Key West would defiantly desire to stay here again.

Best Western @ 1313 Simonton St, Key West, FL

Nice hotel, nice location, not to far from the water, not to far from Duval St and attractions.  The staff can be a bit rude, I'm a Diamond Member and was not treated as one, made for a very bad start to my vacation and first time to Florida as well as Key West.  Did not do much business in Key West as was mainly my Birthday Vacation, and that is where I got hurt on the Jet Ski Accident, was not feeling real happy with the Hotel, and wanted the whole Gay Experience of being in Key West as well, so I changed hotels to New Orleans House on Duval St.

Comfort Suites @ 3275 N Drinkwater Blvd, Scottsdale, AZ

Great location if you want a place near everything in Scottsdale, not so good for business, quite a bit out of the way for Phoenix Clients.  Nice size rooms, every room is a suite, Laundry available, plenty of parking, friendly staff and great morning breakfast.  Within walking distance of Old Town Scottsdale and the Art District.

Quality Inn @ 3201 E Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, CA

Great location, not to far from  everything and in a pretty good neighborhood and very quite at night.   Hotel in newly renovated, very comfortable bed and very clean, Guest  Laundry has good hours as well as the  Pool and Jacuzzi.  Very close to some  very good restaurants and clubs.  Breakfast was very good with a good  variety, staff is very friendly and helpful, plenty of parking.

Comfort Inn @ 390 S Indian Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA

Great Downtown Location, plenty of parking and easy to find.  Within walking distance of several Great Restaurants, Bars and Clubs.  Breakfast is good everything is good and fresh.  Internet service is good with high speeds.  The hotel is on the Free Downtown Bus Line.  The staff is very friendly and helpful, cleaning staff is nice and friendly.  Rooms are nice size and clean.

Best Western @ 1615 E Northern Ave, Phoenix, AZ

To start I called to request an early check in, and the guy at the desk told me he would call me back in a couple minutes, couple hours went by, and no contact from the front desk person, so I stopped by, and they informed me they would not have the room I requested available till 3pm, which then they said we could call you when it's ready, and I rejected their offer, as they don't do call backs obviously.  Then have to say the Cleaning Staff is the worst I have ever seen.  After I got checked in, and was put on the 2nd floor which I requested a 1st floor due to having a Hip Replacement and they had no elevators.  The cleaning staff would leave trash bags and their carts in the hallway at the base of the stairs, plus smoking in a Non-Smoking Area and when you mention it, they laugh in your face, like who are you to say what I do.  When they were supposed to be cleaning rooms there would be 3 to 4 in a room, partying and laughing so loud I couldn't hear the TV in my own room, guess that is why there is no such thing as early check ins there.  They would stand on the second floor yelling down to the first floor for several minutes instead of walking down to talk civilized.  You call the front desk and they say they will mention it to them, but then the next day they get even louder and ruder.  The property could be beautiful if the cleaning people didn't leave their cars all over the walkways after they leave at the end of the day making it hard to maneuver around the walkways, probably a violation of the fire codes as well.  They have free Internet that is sluggish at best, and you get logged off randomly while your using the computer to put your code back in.  Breakfast was good, they have Biscuits and Gravy, Eggs with Sausage and Hash Browns.  When leaving there are lots of blind spots onto Northern so be cautious.  But I would have to say until they get their cleaning staff straightened out, I will not be staying there again, and just note if you stay more then one day, there is no common courtesy from most the staff, they already have you checked in, and have your money. Would have to say, I'm glad that I stayed at the Best Western in Houston and Galveston before this one, I would have thought the attitudes of the staff was normal for their chain.

Quality Inn @ 1300 N Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ

They have their remodel done finally, looking good.  Staff is very friendly and courteous to their guests.  Breakfast is great to have every morning, no work, no clean up, just eat a great breakfast and leave.  Close to downtown, with Laundry on Site with plenty of parking.  They do have a new Internet provider and is faster then was before.  Had no issues while there which makes the stay even that much better.

Quality Inn @ 1308 N US Hwy 285, Fort Stockton, TX

Not far off the freeway which is nice, clean and large rooms, friendly staff.  Internet is not bad.  Plenty of parking and they do have a laundry facility on the property.  Not real familiar with Fort Stockton, was just a layover spot driving across Texas, but was still a good choice, would recommend if passing through.

Best Western @ 102 Seawall Blvd, Galveston, TX

Nice location, across the street from the Beach, very clean hotel, friendly staff, very good Internet Service, and wonderful morning breakfast.  They do have Laundry Facilities at the hotel, but check the washer first, as at times it is full of dirt from people washing their beach towels and clothes.  Plenty of parking, in front and back of hotel.  It is a bit of a distance from Pleasure Peer, but it is a nice walk on the Beach to get there.

Best Western @ 915 W Dallas St, Houston, TX

Great hotel, awesome location, within walking distance to downtown.  They have guest laundry in a couple different places at the hotel.  Nice large rooms, very clean and comfortable suites.  Great hot breakfast, included French Toast as well as Biscuits and Gravy.  Plenty of parking.  Cleaning staff was very nice and polite.  Front desk staff was very polite and helpful when needed.  Internet was fast and reliable.

September 22 - October 3, 2015
Comfort Inn @ 7138 N Stemmons Fwy, Dallas, TX

Nice hotel, not real close to anything, they do not have Guest Laundry on the premises closest one is about 2 miles away.  Nice size room / suite, plenty of space almost felt like a home away from home, if on the 4th floor, they have Vaulted Ceilings.  When in your room make sure to swing the latch closed as Housekeeping will walk in without knocking and their keys unlock the Deadbolt.  Internet was good and fast.  Good hot breakfast.  Plenty of parking.  Front desk staff was very friendly even when I watched them being yelled at by guests, they kept a smile on, and did not get aggravated.

Wyndham Garden @ 103 9th St, San Antonio, TX

Nice hotel right on the River Walk, staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.  There is a laundry area to use at no fee.  Beautiful pool and spa area, very nice gym area.  There is a restaurant & bar attached to the hotel.  There is no free parking available at the hotel, rate is $18 per night for Valet or $25 across the street, there is street parking available if you can find any.  The hallways are kept very cold, so you might need a sweater or coat between your room to the elevator.  They do offer room service, but they do not pick the empty dishes up very often, noticed some of the trays and dirty dishes laying in the hall for 12 - 18 hours, and would start to create an order in hallways.  Internet was pretty good, but you need to put the pass code back in randomly which gets tiresome.

Comfort Inn @ 707 Interstate 30, Little Rock, AR

Great location, near the River Front, lots of restaurants to visit in the area, and within walking distance to the River.  Was upgraded to a Suite for being a Diamond member, and it was a great room.  Staff was very nice and helpful.  Plenty of parking, above and below ground.  Free breakfast was good and warm every morning.  They have 2 laundry facilities on the property.  They do have a restaurant / bar at the hotel, but the food is mainly Pizza and Finger Foods, limited menu.  Would defiantly stay at their location again.

Best Western @ 207 W Van Buren, Eureka Spring, AR

Great hotel, nestled in the wood in the Ozark Mountains.  Within walking distance of downtown Eureka Springs.  Rooms are spacious, breakfast is not free, but they do have a great restaurant there at the hotel.  During the summer they show movies in the pool at night, and they have a nice game area if you want to do some Put Put Golfing.  Plenty of parking, they do have a laundry facility on the property as well.  Staff was very friendly, and helped give directions to different sites in the area.

Quality Inn @ 42 S Camilla St, Memphis, TN

Nice hotel, near the Hospital and Downtown.  Nice size room, plenty of parking, breakfast was pretty good and staff was very friendly.  I went out for a walk at night, little bit of a shady neighborhood, but not bad, didn't run into any problems.  Will go back again, and give it a true chance next time, was busy for the one night I was there, so can not complain about the clients.

Econolodge @ 401 S 2nd St, Louisville, KY

Second time staying at this hotel, and still worked out great, getting to know my way to the Laundromat pretty well :) the staff is very awesome and will help you out with the area.

Comfort Inn @ 650 S High St, Columbus, OH

The hotel was close to Downtown and Freeway Access, had plenty of parking, very nice size rooms.  Elevator is a bit on the slow side, so you might want to take the stairs, the hotel is only 4 stories.  Hotel was pretty clean and in a pretty nice neighborhood.  Breakfast was pretty good, had Hot and Cold options.  Internet was very good, they are in the process of installing a Laundry Room which will be convenient.  They do not respect the Do Not Disturb Sign though, if you have it up, and they want to clean, they will start to pound on your door, does not matter if you are sleeping, in the shower, on a conference call or doing something else.

Econolodge @ 401 S 2nd St, Louisville, KY

I was very impressed with this hotel, I didn't have my hopes high as this was the first Econolodge I'd stayed at, but it's a very clean property, nice rooms, they have been upgraded, the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the area.  I walked around a few times at night, and seems like a pretty safe neighborhood.  Close to the River Front, Whisky Row and 4th Street Entertainment.  Parking does cost $5 per night, but they do have a Security Guard on at night who walks the lot and keeps an eye on the cars.  They do have a Gym, pretty nice equipment, just wish they had a Laundry Facility on premises as well, but they don't, it's a couple miles down the road.  Breakfast is okay, Juice, Cold Cereal, Oat Meal and breads.  I would highly recommend giving them a try if going to Louisville.

La Quinta @ 617 S Broadway St, Little Rock, AR

Great centrally located location, and very secure, you need to use your key card to get into the Parking Garage as well as the Elevator to get to the rooms.  They also have full time Security in the lobby.  Breakfast is good M-F you have Eggs, Sausage and Biscuits and Gravy, as well as cold cereal, Bagels and Toast, but on the weekends they have Fruit in Corn Syrup instead of the Hot Breakfast.  They do have a Washer and Dryer so you might need to wait a bit to do Laundry, but they do work good.  Hotel Staff is very friendly and informative about the area, plus they have a 24 Hour Shuttle to take you around if needed, and they will come pick you up as well.  The beds are very comfortable and rooms are newly remodeled.  Hotel is within a Mile of River Market and Restaurants, as well as being in the center of Downtown. They do have a restaurant in the Lobby, but it is only open M-Th.

Days Inn @ 2801 NW 39th St, Oklahoma City, OK

Have to say one of my worst hotel experiences ever.  The Internet is hit or miss, and when hitting, it is very slow.  The Do Not Disturb Sign means nothing to management, I had it out, and he pounds on my door, and demands that I have to receive Maid Service right that second, you can not go 2 days without service.  I have never heard of anything like that before, if you do not want Maid Service should not be forced on you, plus what if I was on a Conference Call or Napping right then, Do Not Disturb is for a reason.  It appears that they allow the neighborhood families to bring their children to the pool, as I did not see them staying the night there, and they just piled back in cars at the end of the day and drove off.  Breakfast consists of Juices, Bread, Bagels and Cold Cereal.  The AC works great, but the lighting in the room was bad, you had to jiggle the light switch in the Vanity Area to get the light to kind of turn on.  The laundry room is in the Super 8 next door, and is only open from 10am to 6pm not real convenient hours, but there is a 24 hour laundromat down the road.  The staff is very rude and one morning I was listening to one of the front desk ladies talking to her drug dealer in the lobby about buying an 8 Ball, so not sure how safe it would be for children there with Drug Deals going down in the lobby.

Days Inn @ 615 Central Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM

Convenient location, between downtown and University of New Mexico plus just of the I-25, plenty of parking, area seems okay, have been out at night, and not any problems.  No guest laundry, and the closest laundry is almost 2 miles away.  They got their pool up and running now.  Breakfast, what can I say, they had Yogurt which was the healthiest thing they had, but they do have Cold Cereal, Toast and Juice guess the breakfast will be good for you.  The room was nice and roomy, the bathroom was redone, they were in the process of getting the roof replaced my last couple days there, but they still need to do some repairs on the roof in the walkways probably caused by water damage.

Quality Inn @ 1300 N Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ

Great location, near the University and Downtown.  Nice clean rooms, plenty of space, very hot water for showering, great breakfast, and they have a New Internet Provider so the High Speed is fast now.  Plenty of parking, and if on the 1st Floor, you can pretty much park in front of your room.  They do have a Laundry Facility and they got the Dryer fixed now, and working good.

Howard Johnson @ 801 W Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ

Was a good location, about a mile from Historic Downtown Flagstaff, walked there a couple times for dinner.  Do have to say, didn't realize it gets that cold at night in Flagstaff, so if walking remember to take a long sleeve shirt or coat with you even though it's warm during the day.  Hotel was nice and clean, staff was friendly and helpful with questions.  Breakfast is okay for Continental Breakfast, but they do have fresh Waffles if desired.  They do have a laundry facility for guest use.  Plenty of parking, and lots of places within walking distance if desired.  High Speed Internet was great, and fast, didn't have any down times or slow speeds, so great place for Business Stays.

Wyndham Garden @ 3600 N 2nd Ave, Phoenix, AZ

Great Central Phoenix Location, near the light rail to take you downtown to games, or Tempe to Mill Avenue.  Plenty of Parking in their 4 Story Parking Garage.  Staff is very friendly and remembers your name, and greets you each time you enter the hotel.  Great Bar / Restaurant attached to the Hotel, great Bartenders and Wait Staff, you can order Room Service if you wish to eat in your room.  Beautiful Garden Courtyard to hang out and relax in.  Very good High Speed Internet, and Great Breakfast, I especially enjoy their Fresh Fruit and French Toast.  Look forward to my visit in October when it is not quite so hot.

Travelodge @ 3735 Las Vegas Blvd S, Las Vegas, NV

Hotel right on the Las Vegas Blvd Strip nestled behind the Harley Davidson Restaurant and Polo Towers.  Very nice rooms nice size, lots of parking but you do need a permit, security is there watching the cars at all times, so your car is very safe, they did give me a second permit for my clients which was very nice of them.  The staff is very friendly and helpful but the Internet is very slow at times.  Breakfast is nothing to write home about, but there is some cold cereal, toast and pastries.  They do have a laundry available to guests.  I will be staying here again, and would suggest if you don't want the resort fees to give them a chance if you desire to be on the Strip, you have Planet Hollywood, Ballagio, Paris, Caesars Palace, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, New York New York and MGM and lots more within walking Distance.

Comfort Inn @ 171 W 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT

Great location, close to Downtown, within walking distance to several restaurants, banks and entertainment.  The hotel was very clean, good size rooms, plenty of parking.  Staff was very friendly and helpful.  Look forward to returning again.  Breakfast was good, they change up the hot food to give a variety. Internet is pretty good and they do have a guest laundry available, but just 1 Washer and 1 Dryer so might have to wait a while to use it.

Ramada @ 1150 E Colfax Ave, Denver, CO

Good location, not to far from downtown, but there are lots of homeless that hang out in the area, might not be the safest place at night.  Plenty of parking, Breakfast is not included with your stay like other Ramada's so plan on spending money for breakfast.  They do have a restaurant and full bar for Lunch and Dinner.  Rooms are nice size and clean.  Staff is friendly and helpful.  If you have a reaction to Marijuana Smoke you might want to be careful as the 3rd floor would have the some coming down the hallways.  Great Laundry Room, newer units.  They do have a pool and hot tub.  Warning about Denver though, lots of No Shows and Cancellations.

Quality Inn @ 3011 Cerrillos Rd, Santa Fe, NM

Hotel is a bit from Downtown Santa Fe, but affordable, it's about a 4 mile drive downtown or about $15 Uber Ride.  Plenty of shopping and good restaurants near the hotel though, and easy access for clients, to find and plenty of parking.  Rooms are a pretty good size and all rooms have a Patio as well.  There is a Fridge in the room, but not Microwave, but there is one up front by the Front Desk and couple of tables to eat at if you wish.  Nice pool area as well as courtyard to relax in.  Breakfast was good, made English Muffin with Eggs and Sausage, plus other great things to choose from.  Staff is friendly and helpful.

Days Inn @ 615 Central Ave NE, Albuquerque, NM

Convenient location, between downtown and University of New Mexico plus just of the I-25, plenty of parking, area seems okay, have been out at night, and not any problems.  No guest laundry, and the closest laundry is almost 2 miles away.  Their pool is drained, so if you want to lay out, or get cooled off in the Pool, better call them first, I think it will be down for a while.  Breakfast, what can I say, they had Yogurt which was the healthiest thing they had, and couple days into my visit, they were out, asked about it, and the Graveyard Guy said he does not know if they were going to get more, the only reason they got some was the Wyndham Representative was there, and he told them they had to, I then asked the owner, an she said she was not sure, so if your okay with Cold Cereal, Toast and Juice guess the breakfast will be good for you.  The room was nice and roomy, the bathroom was redone, but they still need to do some repairs on the roof in the walkways probably caused by water damage, but looks like it has been there for a while.

Wyndham Garden @ 3600 N 2nd Ave, Phoenix, AZ

Great Uptown Location, close to everything, convenient Freeway Access to I-17, 51 and I-10.  Very clean property, and relaxing garden, just wish the property had a Hot Tub.  They do have laundry on property, plenty of parking.  Breakfast was very good and they use real dishes and silverware instead of Paper and Plastic.  Enjoyed the French Toast and Fresh Fruit.  They also have a Bar / Restaurant attached to the hotel so if you don't want to leave to get something to eat after 4pm, you can stay there or order Room Service.  Front Desk Staff is very helpful.

Comfort Inn @ 390 S Indian Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA

Great Downtown Location, plenty of parking and easy to find.  Within walking distance of several Great Restaurants, Bars and Clubs.  Breakfast is good, but on a weekday make sure to get down there early if you want the eggs and sausage as if they don't have to replenish them they don't and the Eggs and Sausage are kind of rubbery then, but everything else is fresh.  If you like sweet cold cereal they have Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  Note on Palm Springs, seems like they are starting to use a bit of Grey Water for their Tap Water, so make sure to rinse after brushing with Bottled Water.

Embassy Suites @ 2333 E Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ

Great location, close to Highway 51, they have a great restaurant / bar on the 5th floor of the hotel.  I was there primarily for Bears of the West, PhurFest Event over the weekend, but still had several clients that came in, there was plenty of parking and the room was a nice size suite.  Hot Tub and Pool are both kept up very nice, and Breakfast is fabulous, Eggs are cooked to order, and have French Toast or Pancakes made fresh when ordered, great potatoes as well as beverages and other choices.

Comfort Inn @ 2717 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA

They should have notices on their webpage when they are going to be doing renovations and dropping stuff in the hallways all day.  The hotel is in a good location, close to Downtown and easy to find, plenty of parking.  Friendly staff and good breakfast just wish they had a variety from Scrambled Eggs and Bacon like the Quality Inns do.

Quality Inn @ 6051 N Thesta Ave, Fresno, CA

Good location in North Fresno pretty good part of town, lots of places to eat near by, but the closes Laundromat is over 5 miles away.  Plenty of parking, clean property, good breakfast and friendly staff, would stay there again.

Quality Inn @ 818 15th St, Sacramento, CA

Great location in Downtown Sacramento near the State Capital and Convention Center.  Plenty of great restaurants close by within walking distance.  It is a very secure property, need your room key to get into the elevator or stair wells.  Staff is very friendly and rooms are very clean, and very good breakfast.

Quality Inn @ 4500 Buck Owens Blvd, Bakersfield, CA

Hotels a bit of a distance from downtown, but plenty of parking and good breakfast.  They did upgrade me to a  Suite which was nice.  Business was slow though, was scheduled to be  there 5 nights, but  relocated to Sacramento for the last 3  nights to try to recoup some of my expenses.  Not sure if I will return  or not, but would consider staying here again.

Days Hotel @ 543 Hotel Circle S, San Diego, CA

Very clean hotel, they do not offer Breakfast, but there is a restaurant in front of the Hotel near the office, they have pretty good food.  The Internet Service is good, plenty of parking and the Jacuzzi has Salt Water and very warm.  Hotel is right down the hill from Hillcrest, nice little 15 Minute Walk and your at Washington and 4th.

Quality Inn @ 1691 S Riley Ave, Yuma, AZ

Hotel was in a good location, very clean, staff was friendly, breakfast was good, especially like the biscuits and gravy.  I would stay at this hotel again, if I return for business, buy Yuma itself turned out not to be so good for business.

Quality Inn @ 1300 N Stone Ave, Tucson, AZ

Renovations are almost done, looking really good, and should be done when I get back in September.  I do have to say that the Staff at this location is one of the nicest I have met, they tend to go above and beyond for their guests.  I have already booked my hotels stays here for Sept & Nov of 2015 and Jan 2016.

Comfort Inn @ 390 S Indian Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA

Great location, right in the heart of Downtown Palm Springs, if you like going to Bars, your close to Arenas where there are 4 bars, plus great restaurants are very close by.  Plenty of parking, very clean rooms, Laundry Room is kept very clean, Great Fitness Center and Hot Tub is very nice, and great place to have conversations with other guests, meet a great couple from Australia.  Breakfast was very good, seating inside and out.  Only complaint would be the room numbering is a bit weird to get used, but in all a great location at a very reasonable price.

La Quinta @ 2926 Tulare St, Fresno, CA

Nice hotel, plenty of parking, nice size room.  Close to downtown and Convention Center, but not the best neighborhood, I was in formed that North Fresno is Nicer and Cleaner, will probably stay in that area next time.  They didn't have laundry, but there was a laundromat across the street.  Breakfast was okay.  Staff is very friendly and polite.

Days Inn @ 850 Abrego St, Monterey, CA

Great location, close to Downtown, Beaches and Fisherman's Wharf.  Room was a good size, clean and safe location.  There is also parking on the street behind the hotel for guests, 2 hour limit at times.  They don't have laundry on the property, it's about 2 mile drive to the closest laundromat.  Breakfast was okay, did start to get tired of the same limited breakfast day after day, but the Oatmeal was good for those cold mornings.  Did use the Hot Tub a couple times, nice and private area, nice clean hot water.

Beach Inn Motel @ 823 E 3rd St, Long Beach, CA

Great location and affordable, not to far from Downtown and Beach, hotel looks a bit shady from the street, but the rooms are nice size, clean bedding without bugs, and never ran out of hot water.  Could use a few upgrades but again the price is affordable for the location.  Owners live on property and keep a pretty good eye on the vehicles and keep everything safe.

Comfort Inn @ 2717 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA

Great location, close to downtown and convenient for clients, plenty of parking.  The King Room has plenty of space for the table without moving the room around.  Good breakfast and Internet when it's working.  Hotel was recently remodeled so very clean and new furniture.

Quality Inn @ 1166 W Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA

Great Location, at the back of California Adventures.  Main road and busy, but nothing like Ball Rd. Plenty of parking, safe neighborhood, free breakfast which is great but also close to several very nice restaurants as well as Denny's right next door.  Rooms are very large and spacious.  Clients had no problem finding the place.  Front desk staff is very friendly, and the maid staff said good morning and greeted me every day when I went to Breakfast, they say they are looking forward to my next visit, but they probably say that to everyone.
